Ah, same old bitching and same old whining. Can't believe you actually call this a "pvp update". Pathetic to the extreme, it's only an update of the rotation and the damn trophy in gtob.
This entire thread stinks of "If us PvE'rs don't get any updates, PvP shouldn't get any either". Welcome back to kindergarden.
PvE'rs here really are something special, i'm starting to develop a real contempt.

Please, if you can't stand seeing the most significant format in Guild Wars being updated, please leave this game. We don't want you. We don't need you. After all, pve is a cake-walk even when you do it by yourself.

P.S. Lets not start this again after next weeks update. You can't make Anet stop caring for GvG.
Oh man, what fun post. Okay...

WiK was pretty boring. 2 huge skill updates a year? WOW! Too bad if your main isn't one of those classes, you were "meh".

You still think the game is called Guild Wars because of GvG? Also, apparently GvG is no longer the most significant format. Hasn't been since 2006.

They did say that the "Guild Wars Beyond" content was going to be coming out over the course of the year. I am sure it will take a bit for it to trickle out seeing as Linsey is now gone as well. I don't expect anything on that front for 2 more months with the exception of some text from some NPC's and maybe a new website ala the WiK site. I also expect a message from one of the PR people on here in like two months when everyone's rage comes to a head saying, "since Linsey left, we are really bogged down..."

I don't get mad that content doesn't come out. I get mad that ANET says, "Content will arrive on such and such times" and then when it doesn't come we don't get a straight answer like, "hey sorry. this really isn't important enough to take priority over other stuff we are doing. we will get it done in a few months". If we got a straight answer I would be cool with it. Instead we get announcements on gaming websites saying that this stuff is coming and we get all excited for it. Why not just try saying nothing and just releasing the content? That way everyone is elated we got anything at all.

ANET gave us social commentary in "Ghosts of Ascalon" with the shadow puppet show and how governments can slant their info so that people just blindly follow along. It is obvious how they feel about politicians saying one thing and then doing another. Try taking a page out of your own book ANET.

I'm going to speak for the 2 main camps here: pvpers and pveers.

pvpers: the complaint is there isn't enough people playing. I think that's 95% because this game is 5 years old and there are other, newer things out there, and 5% because of actual improvements and balances that are needed. In summary, all the attention Anet could give to the pvp aspect won't result in droves heading back into the game.

pveers: well, again, it's a 5 year old game. For people who bought each chapter at release (the camp I'm in), you've gotten your money's worth and then some. For people who bought recently, well, you probably got it at a fraction of the original cost and have all the nice little things that have trickled forth throughout the years, that everyone else had to beg for or wait through missed deadlines for.

We know the Live Team is small, and there is a Derv rebalance in the works, as well as some new GW:B content at some point.

This is the dead time between games (GW1 and GW2). It's an inevitability and there just isn't much life that can be breathed back into GW1. Like others here I wish I was thrilled each Thurs to see what new was put in, what broken or boring aspect has been improved to where I want to run through it myself, but those days are gone. The Derv rework won't suddenly appear on a Thurs, we'll know in advance and expect it on a certain date or week. Same with GW:B -- there will probably be a month or so of pathetic Murro updates or whatever the equivalent will be.
Thank you for writing this, it is far more eloquent and far less derogatory about certain people than I could ever hoped to have put it.

You still think the game is called Guild Wars because of GvG? Also, apparently GvG is no longer the most significant format. Hasn't been since 2006.
In comparison, what does PvP get that warrants all this consistent whining and bitching from PvE'rs every single time a new update is released which is mainly PvP oriented (Even if calling it an update would be an insult to updates, such as this, since it's only really changing the rotation and trophy in gtob)?

When did PvP get any sort of new content, "pretty boring" or not? A new HA map was promised ages ago and still not delivered. We got CA at the cost of 2 other arenas and it died down after a week. CA is now as good as non-existent.
When did PvP get a huge skill update, even though it is extremely necessary since it's stagnating? Mesmers got a huge PvE update to make them more viable. Why don't Dervishes, Paragons and to a lesser extent Rits get similarly huge skill updates to actually make them on par with other professions in high-end PvP, outside of gimmicks?

We know GvG is not the most significant format anymore and hasn't been for a very long while, sadly. You don't need to remind us of that.
That's no reason to completely ditch GvG as so many PvE'rs here just can't wait to see happening, to the extent that even frekkin mAT and AT rotation "updates" now receive so much crap.

GvG is the elite format in GW, it's what makes PvP in GW unique, it's not going to be completely ditched by ANet, no matter how much it annoys the PvE community, and frankly, seeing PvE'rs raging and throwing their toys out of the pram because ANet doesn't do exactly what they want them to is starting to warm my heart a little bit. That's what you guys have done with all your QQing.

2 huge skill updates this year. Reading is hard!

You must be one of those people that doesn't like change. When those skill updates came out, I was like "Cool, now I can play ritualist" and "Cool, now tactics is useful" and "OMG I need to buy an extra character slot to make a god-awesome mesmer!"

Gvg is the most significant format, since it's what makes GW stand apart from other MMO's. Instancing is another one, but too a lesser extent since you got RPGs for it too.

And I'll quote myself from a previous thread:

Can't you people wait a few months for your pve update? The gvgers have been waiting 2 years for this.
One last thing to you whining PvErs: You guys survived an entire year (2009) without any decent pve updates, I'm sure you'll survive. So why don't you do us all a favor and shut the hell up!

There was actually 56 guilds in the last mAT which is a great turnout.

Yeah, like anyone believes will still get another update this year. The overwhelming silence from the devs and community relationship guys is the best answer.

I love change. I loved when the game wasn't split to PvP and PvE when balancing came around. Sorry, but I liked the ritualist update. Mesmer update made it an easy-mode class I can't really enjoy. Ritualist was made more flexible and received more builds. But that's hardly content. Neither was the Zaishen bounty thing.

Yes, the most significant format, as proved by the last 3 years. Like Eye of the North that improved it... not at all, and Nightfall that gave us a powerful surge of powercreep with Devishes and Paragons.

We'll be less vocal when you'll be lesser assholes. Seriously, you are a model of a PvPer - hate everything AI-related, with almost religious fanaticism trashing everyone who doesn't play PvP all the time, while being a total asswipe about it. Way to spread the stereotypes!

Ok, just a note for the whiners (PVPers whining about PVE whiners make them equally whiners) who say GvG is what makes this game unique. I mean, really? It could be true if only this game had this format, but as it's not so, I don't see that so unique.

For the rest, no update, move on, as Morphy said.

It's amazing how people manage to whine and complain about everything.

And then you're surprised Community Relations are dead on GW:Guru. Well, if that's your idea of "relation", you got served.

So wait, people are still waiting for updates to roll out? I thought we learned about 4 years ago that Anet:

A) Has only held up to their own timelines and set dates in a handfull of occassions. Every other time, someone always had a cold or lost a limb in a war.

B) Make things sound way more significant than they actually are, only to let it shrink down to what the actual update will be like. *

* "BIG GVG CHANGES, BIG SKILL UPDATES, BIG VOD UPDATE, BIG NEW HA MAP, BIG FOURTH YEAR NEW CONTENT" when in reality, every largely anticipated update was not even a shadow of what they promised -or shined it out to be better said-.

(Zaishen Quest Update is nothing but re-using old content, as is Codex Arena and just about every update post-Sorrow's Furnace)

Obviously, I and just about everyone else who posts on these forums and isn't a complete fanboy, has bashed on Anet before. And despite what it might look like, I'm not bashing them right now, I'm merely stating what has occured over the past ~4 years. What does astonish me, though, is that after all these years, people are still making threads about the seemingly contentless updates and/or severly delayed below par updates.

One of the first lesson you shoudl've learned when dealing with Anet is not to expect anything.
If you don't expect anything, atleast you'll have something in that rare ocassion an update hits the fan.

It works for me. Whenever there's a skill update, I expect no more than 5 skills to get touched. When I then see they updated ~15 skills, I'm happy as a bird in the sky because I got 200% more than I was hoping for...

Bottom Line:

Keep expectations low

Chucky333's post is win.

Least guru never changes.

PvP Update - a few pve players moan that pvp "insert complaint here", a few pvp players retort.

PvE Update - a large number of pve players moan that the content is crap

Get a grip on expectations as borat said, you should be used to how things work now.

Don't fret though, monthly rotation changes do not take any effort on their side (i believe it's aided by TK) so i doubt much time was taken from whatever it is they're doing.

Ohai Mr Pr0 Leetist bullshit. PvP is in such a sorry state that it only appeals to overly aggressive people such as your self that like to yell spike calls down the vent. After the match has already finished.

Pro tip: Anet don't care about anything In GW anymore, let alone GvG.

This isn't even an update, it's automatic, therefore this thread has no reason to exist.

You can't complain about them updating pvp and not pve, because if they didnt automate the maps today, there wouldn't even be an update. So if you don't care about the map rotation, then just assume the update contained nothing and go back to DwGing your way through DoA.

I'm totally kind of surprised that there are people still playing PvP over the other multiplayer games out there.. I mean you have MW 2, BFBC 2, the fighting games, Starcraft 2..you guys can't all think those are bad and that GW is better cause that's silly!

But really if they want to keep people on either side (which to be honest, considering 56 guilds entered like someone said instead of playing those more fun games I mentioned, they really don't have a problem with keeping people here..not to mention the mass of people playing the PvE side of the game rather then playing other more fun games) they need to update both parts of the game more often than they have been. But like I said, the majority of you not reading my post because you don't read forums are too suckered in to even bother looking for something better (shit ton out there btw) so Anet doesn't even have to update cause you'll stay here doing the same repetitive stuff.

And that's okay.

GW is so much better than those games that you even prefer posting on Guru to playing them.

I wasn't going to comment, but here goes. It seems that most people here are ignoring this post for what it is, a regurgitation of the same old crap we get every week after a Thursday passes. I have not seen one original comment from any of the above posts, people a least try something new.
